„Center Provides Hope and Healing to Afghan Refugee Women in Tajikistan“

Afghan Women Find Hope and Healing at Ariana Learning Center in Tajikistan
Amid the difficulties of life as refugees in Tajikistan, Afghan women have found hope and healing at the Ariana Learning Center in the city of Vahdat. The center offers a variety of training programs, including computer skills, language studies, and art, and provides psychological counseling as well.
According to the United Nations‘ refugee agency (UNHCR), most of the 7,000 refugees currently residing in Tajikistan fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took power in 2021. For many of these refugees, the Ariana Learning Center is a vital resource, helping them to gain new skills and find emotional support in a challenging time.
The center’s mission is to provide refugees with the tools they need to build a better future for themselves and their families. By offering language and computer training, for example, the center helps refugees gain the skills they need to find employment and become self-sufficient. And through psychological counseling, the center provides emotional support and healing to those struggling with the trauma of displacement.
For the women who attend the center, the programs have been life-changing. „I learned how to read and write in Tajik, and now I can talk to people,“ said one refugee. „I also learned how to use a computer and the internet. This means I can search for jobs and communicate with my family back home.“
For others, the center has provided a space for creative expression and community building. „I love coming here to paint and draw,“ said another refugee. „It helps me forget about my problems and feel closer to my family and friends.“
Despite the challenges of life as refugees, the Afghan women who attend the Ariana Learning Center have found a source of hope and healing. Through education, counseling, and community, they are building a better future for themselves and their families.
