On the first Sunday of Advent, the eagerly awaited Christmas tram of Miskolc appeared, captivating both locals and visitors. While the residents of Miskolc have always admired the tram, this year’s spectacle left an indelible mark, with spectators testifying to its unparalleled fascination.
Seventh Time a European Favorite
Miskolc’s light tram continues to receive high praise and solidifies its status as the most beautifully decorated train in Europe. The transport magazine MHD86.cz, the authoritative voice on such matters, announced Miskolc as the winner for the seventh consecutive time. This triumph speaks volumes about the city’s commitment to creating a holiday masterpiece on wheels.
Tough Competition and Unwavering Victory
In the battle for the title, Miskolc’s festive tram faced tough competition from 28 trams from eight countries. However, the city’s festive tram emerged victorious once again, surpassing competitors from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Poland, Germany, and Croatia. Pilsen, which took second place, and Olomouc, which secured third place, are evidence of Miskolc’s unwavering dominance.

The heart of Miskolc’s tram is the iconic ČKD Tatra KT8D5 202, adorned with five different types of carriages. Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš, the owner of MHD86.cz, announced that Miskolc’s tram received an incredible 58 percent of the 20,861 valid votes received during the competition. This broad support underscores the popularity of the tram and the community’s appreciation for the creative efforts put into its decorations.
A Journey Through Time
The first light tram adorned Miskolc in 2012 with modest decorations. Since 2013, tram line 202 has been the canvas for festive creativity. Over the past nine years, it has transformed from red-golden elegance into an enchanting ice palace and, more recently, into a whimsical fairy tale forest. The tram, once a gingerbread house, has become a symbol of the evolving holiday spirit in the city.
Miskolc’s Christmas light tram promises to enchant viewers until the Epiphany on January 6th and ensure that the festive atmosphere lingers a little longer in the hearts of all who witness this extraordinary Christmas spectacle.
