Hungary and Poland impose ban on crucial Ukrainian exports, causing hardship for Kyiv

Hungary has announced a ban on importing Ukrainian grain, oilseed, and other agricultural products until June 30, in order to allow time for a review of EU measures. The move follows a similar ban introduced by Poland. Exemptions for Ukrainian agricultural products, including grain, oilseed, poultry, eggs, and honey, have caused a glut on local markets, making it difficult for farmers in Hungary and other Central European countries to sell their products. Hungary’s Agriculture Minister, Istvan Nagy, has called for the EU to ensure fair market conditions and protect Hungarian agriculture. Nagy also conducted an extraordinary video meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart to explain the reasons for Hungary’s move.
