Budapest Spring Festival Offers Fifty Programs

The 43rd Budapest Spring Festival, to be held from April 20 to May 2, will offer 50 programs at 30 venues, organizers revealed at a press conference on Wednesday.

Csaba Faix, head of organizer Budapest Brand Zrt, said the programs include concerts, dance and non-conventional theater performances, literary and art programs, and fashion shows.

A literary soiree will be held with readings from the works of Ádám Nádasdy, Réka Borda, and Monika Ferencz. The festival will provide an opportunity to celebrate various anniversaries, such as the 20th anniversary of the opening of the popular Gödör Klub, the 40th anniversary of the Katona József Theatre, the 100th birthday of the composer György Ligeti, as well as the 120th birthday of the scientist John von Neumann.

Music programs include a Haydn-Ligeti-Beethoven concert by the Budapest Sound Collective with Spanish and Australian soloists at the Academy of Music. The Budapest Festival Orchestra will perform at the Budapest Conference Center, while the Budapest Jazz Festival will feature Lizz Wright, the Kasia Pietrzko Trio, and the Nico Morelli Trio. Budapest’s central Madách Square will be transformed into an open-air dance hall for the duration of the festival.
