
„Tomorrow Marks Start of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day Celebrations“

Turkey and TRNC Gear Up to Celebrate 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey are both preparing to celebrate the 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. This historic day, which Ataturk gifted to children, marks the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly 103 years ago. Festivities and events will be held in both countries between 18-23 April.
The Ministry of National Education’s Department of Primary Education will organise several activities to mark the day. The students from Nicosia schools will visit state and government officials within the framework of the festivities. The opening ceremony of the ‚II. Atatürk’s Children Painting Exhibition‘, hosted by the Ministry of National Education, will take place on Monday.
A parliamentary General Assembly will convene with the participation of 16 children from Nicosia, 13 from Famagusta, 11 from Girne, 5 from Iskele, 3 from Guzelyurt, and 2 from Lefke, with the participation of children on the ‚Children’s Rights‘ agenda.
Additionally, Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioglu, will receive students on Tuesday, while students will visit the Prime Minister, Ünal Üstel, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, and the President of the Republic, Ersin Tatar.
On Wednesday, the ‚Hand in Hand on April 23 Special Holiday Event‘ will be organised for special education students under the auspices of the Presidency. The Ministry of National Education and Contemporary Drama Association will contribute to the event in the Presidential garden.
The celebrations will begin on Sunday, April 23, with a speech from the Minister of National Education, Nazım Cavusoglu, at 08:00 on the Bayrak Radio and Television. The state ceremony at the Nicosia Atatürk Monument will be held at 9.00. Yonpaş Metin Derinel High School, whose construction was completed in Famagusta, will be opened with a ceremony at 12:00. Ceremonies will also be held in towns and villages throughout the day.
