Radiosonde systems of the Meteorology Department were renewed

Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, announced that the Radiosonde systems used in upper atmosphere observation were renewed within the framework of the efforts to increase the technical capacity of the Meteorology Department.

Arıklı, who examined the work done with the team of the General Directorate of Meteorology, which maintains the radiosonde systems, received information about the technical devices and software used in upper atmosphere measurements.

According to the information given by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Arıklı was accompanied by Undersecretary of the Ministry Enver Öztürk and Director of Meteorology Department Raif İlker Buran.

-“Hydrogen generator has been maintained, software has been updated”

The team of 5 people, who came to the TRNC within the scope of the current cooperation protocol with the General Directorate of Meteorology, performed the installation of the Radiosonde system used in upper atmosphere observations and the maintenance and service of the hydrogen generator. Within the framework of the studies, the meteorological observation evaluation and reporting software was also renewed.

Renovation works were carried out by İsmail Temir, Head of Observation Systems Department of the General Directorate of Meteorology, engineers Murat Gökhan Bekaroğlu, Mustafa Erdem, Ruzi Gemici and Göktuğ Yiğit from Meteosis company.

The upper atmosphere observations, which form an important part of the weather forecast reports and examine the vertical section of the atmosphere, are carried out twice a day at 9 points in the Republic of Turkey and once a day at 03.00 in the TRNC.

-“All meteorology centers in the world can benefit from the data”

Arıklı, in his statement after the examination, stated that the Department of Meteorology serves not only the TRNC, but also the whole world and is a part of the global meteorology network.

Stating that upper atmosphere observations are made at nine points in Turkey and only one point in the TRNC, Arıklı said, “All meteorology centers in the world can benefit from the data collected by the Meteorology Department during the upper atmosphere observation. These data are very important especially for our region and the Republic of Türkiye.”

Arıklı stated that the balloons and Radiosonde devices used in the observation were donated annually by the General Directorate of Meteorology of the Republic of Turkey, and said, „I would like to once again thank the Republic of Turkey and the General Directorate of Meteorology for their contributions to our country in the field of meteorology, as in every field.“
