President Tatar evaluated the US New Jersey State National Guard’s signing of the State Partnership Program with Southern Cyprus

President Ersin Tatar evaluated the signing of the State Partnership Program between the Greek Cypriot Administration and the National Guard of the US State of New Jersey.

According to the written statement made by the Presidency, President Tatar stated that the signing of a military agreement by the New Jersey State National Guard with the Greek Cypriot Administration will not contribute to the resolution of the Cyprus issue, following the US decision to lift the arms embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration last year. He said it would further encourage his uncompromising stance.

Pointing out that the aforementioned military agreement has the potential to cause tensions in Cyprus and the region, Tatar used the following expressions:

“As I underlined in my reception to United States Ambassador Julie D. Fisher, it is essential for humanity to take steps that will serve stability instead of new regional and global complications. In addition to the US lifting the arms embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration, this attitude of the Greek Cypriot officials, who interpreted the access to the international training program for the Greek Cypriot officers and the signing of the Purchase and Cross-Service Agreement (ACSA) as a success story, is the clearest manifestation of the real intention of the Greek Cypriot leadership. is one of the indicators. Unfortunately, this mentality, which makes deputies and priests practice shooting, instills hostility and hatred towards Turkish Cypriots in the education curriculum, and introduces fascist and racist organizations into the parliament, cannot unfortunately be expected to contribute to the island of Cyprus, regional and global stability on a larger scale.

The increasing armament activities of the Greek Cypriot side are the clearest indication of how indispensable the effective and de facto guarantorship of Motherland Turkey is for the Turkish Cypriot People.

Such developments, which encourage the Greek Cypriot side to act boldly, are closely followed by us. May our people rest in peace.

We will respond with the support of Motherland Turkey to any activity that will disrupt the balance of defense and threaten the life and property of our people on the island. My call to the US administration; It is to refrain from taking such steps that will not serve stability in Cyprus and to follow an equal and balanced policy towards both sides in Cyprus.”
