People’s Party completed its district congresses

The People’s Party (HP) held the Lefke, Güzelyurt and Girne district congresses and determined the district presidents and new district administrative board members and completed all district congresses.

With the district congresses held today, Murat Helvacı was appointed as the Lefke District President, Aykut Erişir was the Güzelyurt District President, and Cagin Çağatay Karataş was the Girne District President. Speaking during the district congresses, Chairman Kudret Özersay said, “With our ordinary general congress on April 16, a new era will begin in the People’s Party. Our country is going through very difficult times, but in order to leave these days behind, we will fight together against rotten politics, we will say ‚my country first‘ and we will see good days.

The ordinary general congress of the People’s Party, which was postponed due to the earthquake disaster in Turkey, will be held on April 16. The Chairman and the members of the Party Assembly will be determined at the ordinary general congress of the People’s Party to be held next week.

“Some things will be understood much better with time”

HP leader Özersay said, “People’s Party is entering a new era with the reunion of people who love their country without any expectation of benefits. The People’s Party, which took a political stand a year ago, did not accept to serve under the same roof with such a government established by ignoring democracy and the will of the people, opposed it and did not give up its principles for the sake of the seat. In the past year, we see that we are now much better understood by different segments of society. We observe that with our regular village and region visits, which we started without waiting for the election time, some things, such as the People’s Party’s principled stance, are understood much better over time.” Özersay said, “A large part of the society does not even follow politics anymore, of course, it is impossible not to give rights to our people. If the elections, that is, the ballot box results, are not respected, the elected ones are thrown aside, governments are formed arbitrarily, prime ministers are appointed, and ministers are tried to be determined, the people will of course be alienated from politics. We have passed through a period where voting has become meaningless. The independence of the country, respect for the will of the people and democracy are vital in this respect. In time, everything will become much better understood. The People’s Party is a party that truly believes and protects the right to self-government and independence of the Turkish Cypriots. The decision to withdraw from the Assembly, taken one year ago, is a necessity for us to uphold these principles.”
