Kommentar: Endphase des Verkehrs-Masterplans erreicht – Diskussion über Zwei-Staaten-Lösung und Föderation steht bevor

Erhan Arıklı, Minister for Public Works and Transport and Chairman of the Revival Party (YDP), expressed his wish in his speech at the Assembly of the Republic, where party leaders were given the floor at the opening ceremony of the new legislative year, that the new legislative year would be advantageous for the deputies, the people, and the state.

Arıklı explained that besides inflation, traffic is the most important issue in the country, and said that he had been working seriously on this issue all summer.

Arıklı said, „We have reached the final phase of the traffic master plan“ and stated that they will increase speed controls through a system of around 300 cameras to be installed across the island.

Arıklı pointed out that high fines have been imposed for traffic controls, and said that there have been 33 fatal traffic accidents in the country so far, with the main causes of accidents being speeding and alcohol.

Regarding Cyprus, Arıklı said that the announcement that President Ersin Tatar would meet with the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Greek Cypriot government at a dinner was „a surprise to us.“ „I hope there will be no step back from the two-state solution, and if circumstances force us to discuss the federation, the YDP’s reaction will be very strong,“ he said.

Arıklı emphasized that President Ersin Tatar should make a statement on this issue, and said, „We want to hear that there is no turning back.“ „Society should not experience déjà vu through negotiations,“ he said.
