British tabloids love to talk about „James Bond“ and finally, they shared an interesting story on a different topic than who the next Bond actor will be.

The Daily Mail reported that actress, writer and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge had „first conversations“ with Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli, and that Waller-Bridge was Broccoli’s number one pick to direct the next film in the series. The next film will be the 26th film in the James Bond franchise overall.

„Fleabag“ creator/star Waller-Bridge went over the script in Daniel Craig’s latest James Bond movie, „No Time To Die,“ to reinvigorate the dialogue and humor, as well as overhaul some of the scenes and characters.

The paper’s source says: „Barbara is very open about saying that she will be Phoebe’s first choice to direct and co-write the next film. She believes Phoebe has tremendous talent and brings a fresh, modern take on Bond. It’s already too early. They had discussions, but there are a lot of variables in the equation.“

The new movie will be the new Bond actor’s debut and will likely see a change in the tone and scale of the franchise as always when a new 007 arrives. Waller-Bridge is a writer with experience in spy thrillers. He created and directed the first season of the black humor assassin/spy series “Killing Eve,” which was critically acclaimed in its debut. He left at the end of the first season and handed over the reins to other series producers for the next three, less acclaimed seasons.

Waller-Bridge, who stars as Indy’s goddaughter Helena in „Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,“ set to hit theaters this summer, is also penning Amazon’s new Tomb Raider franchise.
