IMECE’s global image acquisition capability

Turkey has launched its first domestically developed high-definition imaging satellite, called IMECE. Developed by TÜBİTAK UZAY, the satellite will serve the country in activities such as target identification, detection, natural disasters and agricultural applications for five years. The Turkish-built device will operate at an altitude of 680 kilometers and receive images from any part of the world. TÜBİTAK UZAY’s IMECE satellite was launched with 50 other satellites, including four Turkish-built satellites, such as imaging satellite AKUP, KILIÇSAT produced by ASELSAN and GÜMÜŞ, and the internet of things and imaging satellite CONNECTA T2.1 cube satellites. The satellite’s electro-optical camera with sub-meter resolution was built in Turkey for the first time, named among all the critical subsystems that TÜBİTAK UZAY engineers developed and produced, along with vital contributions from TÜBİTAK MAM and TÜBİTAK UME. The IMECE Project’s results will help Turkey build new satellites in the future and human power and knowledge available in the field. It is expected that this project will give Turkey potential to export high-value-added systems.
