Berberoğlu was commemorated

The founder and first Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party, Ahmet Mithat Berberoğlu, was commemorated on his 21st death anniversary with a ceremony held at his grave.

Berberoğlu’s commemoration ceremony was attended by his family, loved ones and Republican Turkish Party officials.

In his speech at the commemoration ceremony, Republican Turkish Party Member of Parliament and Girne District Secretary Derviş Aygın stated that the struggles of Berberoğlu and his friends when they provided the first political organization of the Turkish Cypriot community once again reveal the importance of the current conjuncture.
Aygın noted that Berberoğlu’s most valuable contribution to the Turkish Cypriot community was the establishment of the Republican Turkish Party and his forward political life.

Tufan Erhürman, Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party, in his speech at the ceremony, drew attention to the need to remember the conditions 53 years ago while commemorating Ahmet Mithat Berberoğlu.

Erhürman said, “The CTP was founded with the great dedication and courage of him and his friends in extremely difficult conditions that cannot be compared with today’s,” and said that they remember Berberoğlu with love, respect and longing, as they do every year.

Erhürman explained that the Turkish Cypriot people worked with great devotion in their struggle for existence and institutionalization, and they struggled to establish the Republican Turkish Party and ensure its survival.
Drawing attention to the struggles of Berberoğlu and his friends by making great sacrifices for themselves and their families, Erhürman said, „The struggles left by them will continue from now on.“
